1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
My husband, Derrick Houghton has been a Chiropractor in PF since 2000. We have 2 daughters who attend Hendrickson High School, and we have spent countless hours on soccer field sidelines. Derrick and I have made so many incredible friends in PF over the years. They are truly more like family than friends to us.
2. Tell us about your business. How did you decide to go into real estate ?
After helping my husband open his Chiropractic practice in Pflugerville, I stayed home for a few years when our daughters were little. After buying our first house in Steedʼs Crossing in 2001, I was hooked on the process of searching for homes, but after getting my license and starting my real estate sales practice, I quickly learned that being a Realtor is much more than looking for the perfect home. Itʼs also being a counselor, mediator, problem solver, hand holder, and cheerleader. I truly enjoy the opportunities I have to help people make one of the biggest purchases or sales of their lives. First time homebuyers, downsizing/empty nesters, family or job changes. I get to see a lot of life situations. Through it all, I am thankful to call so many past clients beloved friends.
3. How long have you lived in Pflugerville and what brought you here?
We have been Pflugerville residents since 1994. My husbandʼs parents and his sister live here. Derrick and I wanted to raise our daughters close to family, and we loved the small town feel of Pflugerville (early on). We also loved the proximity to Austin and Round Rock. This seemed like the perfect place to put down roots, grow our family, and start our businesses.
4. What do you love most about our growing city and what changes would you like to see in the next 10 years?
Itʼs been surreal to see the rapid growth in Pflugerville. When I started at the KW office in Round Rock, in 2003 I was one of the few agents who specialized in Pflugerville. It was much more difficult to sell a house in PF back then, without the toll roads, booming retail and restaurant businesses, and no “master planned” communities. When I used to try to get buyers to consider Pflugerville, often times they would say, “PFLUGERVILLE (said with a hick-tone)?? Thatʼs nothing but cows, fields, and families!”—turning their noses up a bit. To that I would respond, “Why yes, it sure is and thatʼs why we love it so much!”
Apparently everyone figured that out, and now we have a tremendous community of good folks, enjoying our little city with the quirky name. I hope in the next 10 years we can stay a little city at heart, full of good folks who are always ready to help out friends or neighbors who actually feel more like family
